SERVICE ACTIVITIES (SAs)

The Service Activities have as major objectives:

  • To engineer, implement, manage and develop the FEDERICA infrastructure interconnecting project partners with heterogeneous technology links. The task implies setting up a monitoring and control systems for the physical network and the virtual slices, based on the current results of the GÈANT2 project and NREN developments.
  • To deploy a mechanism for virtualization of network and resources and develop a model for virtual network use, user control and related business models.

    • The project plans to engineer and make operational the FEDERICA infrastructure in a short period of time (9 months) thanks to the use of the existing NRENs and GÉANT2 infrastructures.

    SA1: Infrastructure Support
    This activity will plan and deploy the FEDERICA network infrastructure, and facilitate interconnection with other networks. This includes provisioning of the virtualisation capabilities, as well as monitoring and management functions.

    SA2: Operational User Support and Toolbench Development
    This activity will develop the tools to enable users to take advantage of the virtualisation capabilities of the FEDERICA infrastructure. It will also provide any necessary user support.
